Domesday Book

Bolton-by-Bowland is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 - see adjacent extract. If anyone is interested, they can buy more details for only £3.50 from the "National Archives".

The Domesday Book is one of the most important historical records of the country and was commissioned by William the Conqueror in 1086. It captures details such as landowners, local customs and even disputes.

Domesday - When I was in my last year at the school here back in 1986 we took part in a project called the Doomsday Project by the BBC. All the pupils took part giving an account of various aspects of the village at that time. We then saved these onto floppy disc and posted them to the BBC for archiving. All the information is now on the web as the project has been restarted. It's now called Doomsday Reloaded. "Click here to visit link""from Dave Hoyle (Bolton-by-Bowland)
